Company History

Sabre Technology was started in September 1993 by Chris Ford, Tim Mitchell, and Dave White, three Electronic Engineering graduates from the University of Hull. We spent our spare time at university creating, operating, improving, and repairing the student union’s stock of sound and lighting equipment. This hands-on experience fostered a passion for creative problem-solving, which became the foundation of our business.

In the early days, we focused on repairing and installing equipment in the East Yorkshire area and designing small electronic gadgets for a variety of customers. Our big break came in the summer of 1995 when we partnered with Abstract, then the leading UK manufacturer of club and disco lighting. We developed a highly successful hardware and software design used in over 30,000 products worldwide, creating a strong working relationship with Abstract that continues to this day.

Over the years, we’ve expanded our reach, producing innovative designs for a wide range of applications. These include bespoke solutions for exhibitions and sculptures, as well as high-volume manufactured products. After 15 years at the Newlands Science Park within the Hull University campus, we moved in 2019 to a larger facility in Woodmansey, just north of Hull, to support our growth.

Sabre Technology remains run by its original founders. We believe the unique nature of the company is best served by staying small and flexible, allowing us to focus on creativity and client collaboration.

Collaboration and Client Relationships

Our collaborative approach and focus on creativity have been central to building strong, enduring relationships with our clients. Many of our clients are longstanding, including one who has been with us for over 28 years. We work with companies of all sizes, from one-person startups with a great idea to established industry leaders, including over 17 years of collaboration with a FTSE 100 company.

A large proportion of our clients have come to us through recommendation, reflecting the trust and satisfaction we inspire in those we work with. We are always keen to meet new clients and explore how we can bring their ideas to life.

This diversity of experience has allowed us to develop expertise across a wide range of fields. Our commitment to innovation has resulted in around half a million IoT devices operating globally using our electronics and firmware—a testament to the quality and reliability of our designs.
